What to expect from your initial consultation

Your initial appointment will last 45-60 minutes. To aid a diagnosis, we will ask you questions regarding the nature of you condition and how it first developed. We will also ask you about medical conditions you may have and medications you are taking.

You will then receive a thorough objective examination where your physiotherapist will assess your physical function. This may involve assessment of your posture, gait, range of movement, muscle function, joint mobility, and special tests.

Following this assessment we will discuss with you the likely diagnosis and the implications of this. The full spectrum of management options available to you will be discussed, whether physiotherapy will be of benefit to you, and the treatments available. We encourage all of our patients to be actively involved in planning their future care, and we will also provide you with information regarding more invasive procedures such as steroid injections and surgery if this is deemed more appropriate. We will inform your GP of the outcome of our assessment by way of a letter.
